Happy Adoption Day Baby Girl!

On Friday, July 20th, we celebrated E’s Adoption Day!  On Wednesday, July 20th, 2011, the state we live in (and by association the United States) officially made E our daughter.

Even though E’s adoption finalized a year ago, I was anxious to celebrate the one year anniversary of her finalization.  In our state, once an adoption has been finalized for one year, it is 100% complete and done.  I can not be annulled for any reason, at all.  And while in a normal situation, this would likely be true the day  the adoption was finalized, E’s story is complicated.  Far more complicated than I even realized the day this photo was taken.  And while it’s not my place to air Sam* or E’s story, I will just say that I was very, very relieved for this day to pass (and no, we did not break a single law in the process of adopting E).

This year, we decided on Thursday that we wanted to partake in similar activities on E’s adoption day that we did last year.  After E’s court appearance (hopefully the only one she ever has) we went to the Cheesecake Factory and to a Concept Disney Store (way cooler than a normal Disney store) to celebrate.

The Cheesecake factory has somehow become very monumental in our little family as a place we celebrate.  A & I had our first date there, got engaged there (because it’s where we had our first date), and went there after E’s finalization.  Naturally it just felt right to continue the tradition and visit our sacred space again.

This time we were lucky enough to have a few friends join us!  E’s future husband in-laws (Brenda, Phillip, and Baby B) joined us, as did A’s mom, dad, and brother.  E’s new BFF Beth also joined us, which was very special to us as Beth is in town awaiting the arrival of her little boy!

Beaming with pride!

Mom… we need to talk…

After enjoying a yummy meal and delicious cheesecake, we wondered into the Disney store (which only made my itch for a Disneyland trip worse) and looked around.  E got bored quickly though, and we decided to head over to Build A Bear.

I hope that one day on E’s Adoption Day celebration that we can take her to adopt her very own {cabbage patch} baby {doll}.  But for now, I don’t think it would mean as much to her as it may in the future.  So instead, she “adopted” a bear! Her name is Francis!

After an eventful evening of cheesecake and bear making, we decided to call it a night and head home.  I got to spend the evening rocking my {not so} little girl to sleep, reminding her that of all the stars I’ve wished on, she was my very favorite one that came true.

Pretty awesome Adoption Day if you ask me!
